Health Maintenance Organization (HMO)

A Medicare HMO plan gives you access to a Medicare-approved network of doctors and hospitals. In many cases with an HMO plan, your costs may not be covered when you receive care from a provider outside of your plan network, and you may need a referral from your primary care physician before seeing a specialist.

Cigna Healthcare offers a number of Medicare HMO plans. Some of these plans include, but are not limited to:

  • Cigna Medicare Advantage (HMO)
  • Cigna Medicare Preferred (HMO)
  • Cigna Medicare PreventiveCare (HMO)
  • Cigna Medicare Primary (HMO)

Not all plans are available in all areas. Plan availability depends on where you live.

Preferred Provider Organization (PPO)

A Medicare PPO plan typically allows you to visit doctors both in and outside of the plan network. Any medical care you receive from doctors or hospitals outside of your plan network will typically come with higher out-of-pocket costs, such as a copay or coinsurance.

Cigna Healthcare offers a number of Medicare PPO plans. Some of these plans include, but are not limited to:

  • Cigna Medicare Advantage (PPO)
  • Cigna Medicare Preferred (PPO)

Not all plans are available in all areas. Plan availability depends on where you live.

Review Your Medicare Plan Before Open Enrollment

Medicare plans can change from one year to the next. Some of these plan changes can include out-of-pocket costs, network coverage and the doctors and hospitals who will accept the plan’s terms and conditions.

Each year, prior to the Fall Medicare Open Enrollment Period, contact your Medicare Advantage plan provider to inquire about any changes to your plan for the upcoming year.

If you discover that your doctor will be leaving your plan’s network and you wish to remain with that doctor, you can use the Open Enrollment Period to shop for a plan that will include your doctor in the plan network.
