Aetna Medicare plans

Aetna is committed to helping Medicare beneficiaries get the most from their health care coverage. Depending on where you live, Aetna may offer Medicare Advantage plans (also called Medicare Part C) in your area.

Below, we’ll explore these plans further to help you understand your Medicare plan options and the benefits that may be available.

Aetna Medicare Advantage plans

Aetna Medicare Advantage plans provide Medicare Part A and Part B coverage in one plan, which includes coverage for:

  • Hospital care
  • Skilled nursing facility care
  • Hospice care
  • Doctor’s services
  • Outpatient care
  • Diagnostic services
  • Medical equipment

Aetna Medicare Advantage plans may also include coverage for prescription drugs, dental, vision, fitness benefits and wellness programs.

Some of Aetna’s plans offer the following benefits:

  • $0 comprehensive annual physical exam
  • No cost fitness facility membership available1
  • 24-hour toll-free nursing hotline
  • No added cost blood-pressure cuff and support2

Aetna offers several different Medicare Advantage plan options, which include:

  • Aetna MedicareSM Plan (HMO)
  • Aetna Medicare Open Access Plan (HMO)
  • Aetna Medicare Prime Plan (HMO)
  • Aetna MedicareSM Plan (PPO)
  • Aetna Medicare Prime Plan (PPO)

Please note that all plans are available in all locations.

The Aetna Medicare Plan (HMO) plan provides members with access to tens of thousands of network health care providers nationwide. In-network coverage may also be available when you travel, depending on where you are and your plan’s network coverage.

The Aetna Medicare Open Access Plan (HMO) plan also gives you access to tens of thousands of network providers nationwide, and it does not require a referral to see a specialist.

The Aetna Medicare Prime Plan (HMO) provides access to a local provider network. You must use providers from within this network, except for out-of-network urgent care, emergency situations or renal dialysis.

The Aetna Medicare Plan (PPO) plan combines the benefits of the HMO plan with the added flexibility to visit in-network and out-of-network health care providers.

The Aetna Medicare Prime Plan (PPO) is similar to the Aetna Medicare Plan (PPO) and offers the flexibility to visit in-network and out-of-network providers and hospitals.

Aetna Medicare Advantage plans have an out-of-pocket maximum, which limits how much you’re required to pay out of pocket for your covered medical expenses in one year.

Why choose an Aetna Medicare plan?

Aetna has been helping people with their insurance options since 1853,3 and today, more than 37 million people trust Aetna to help them make decisions about their health care and health care spending.4

Each year, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) release Star Ratings that measure the performance of Medicare Advantage plans.5

For 2018, Aetna Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug (MAPD) plans earned an overall weighted average rating of 4 out of 5 stars, and 87% of Aetna Medicare plan members are enrolled in plans with a rating of 4 stars or higher.6

Moody’s Investors Service rated the long-term senior debt and financial strength of Aetna Inc. and its affiliates as Baa2, and they were affirmed with a stable outlook.7

Seven percent of all Medicare Advantage enrollees in 2017 were enrolled in an Aetna Medicare plan. This accounts for over 1 million Medicare Advantage plan beneficiaries.8
