Medicare Star Ratings

Each year, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) release Star Ratings that measure the performance of Medicare Advantage plans.

These ratings evaluate Medicare Advantage plans based on:

  • Staying healthy
  • Member complaints
  • Health plan customer service
  • Member experience with the plan
  • Management of chronic conditions

According to, the ratings range from one star (poor) to five stars (excellent).
