Aetna offers several types of Medicare Advantage plans, including Aetna Medicare Advantage HMO plans.

With these plans, you are typically required to select an in-network primary care physician (PCP). Your PCP works with you to coordinate your health care so that you get the care you need at the time you need it.

A health maintenance organization (HMO) plan lets you choose any doctor or hospital that is in the plan network. You’re typically required to receive care from an in-network provider, unless in the case of an emergency.

Do Aetna Medicare Advantage HMO plans require referrals?

Most HMO plans require you to get a referral from your primary care physician for a visit to a specialist and for hospital care.
