What is Medicare Advantage?

Medicare Advantage Plans – such as those offered by Anthem – combine the benefits of Medicare (Part A and Part B) into a single plan.

Most Medicare Advantage Plans offer additional benefits that Original Medicare doesn’t cover. These extra benefits can include coverage for items and services such as:

  • Prescription drugs
  • Routine dental, vision and hearing care
  • Preventive care services

Anthem Medicare Advantage Plans can come in several different types, including HMO plans, PPO plans and Special Needs Plans.

Why choose a Medicare Advantage Plan?

More than one out of every three Medicare beneficiaries (34 percent) are enrolled in a Medicare Advantage Plan in 2018.2

Some of the potential advantages of a Medicare Advantage Plan vs. Original Medicare include:

  • Extra benefits
Medicare Advantage Plans – such as Anthem Medicare Advantage Plans – cover your Original Medicare benefits in one simple plan that can often include additional benefits such as prescription drug coverage.

Many Medicare Advantage Plans also offer extra benefits that can include membership to wellness programs such as SilverSneakers,® non-emergency transportation to medical appointments and home-delivered meal services.

  • Bundled coverage
With a Medicare Advantage Plan that offers prescription drug coverage, you get your Medicare Part A (hospital insurance), Part B (medical insurance) and prescription medication benefits in one convenient plan.

  • Out-of-pocket protection
Medicare Advantage Plans include an annual out-of-pocket spending maximum that helps protect you from potentially high medical costs.
