Seven Activities to do with Your Grandkids This Summer

It’s summer and the grandkids are out of school!  For many grandparents, summer means more time with family, including your rambunctious grandkids.  So how will you keep your grandkids entertained this summer?  We have seven fun-filled activities to help you get started:

Seven Activities to do with Your Grandkids This Summer

1. Go on a bike ride

A bike ride is a great way to enjoy the outdoors and provides a positive outlet for your grandkids’ potential high energy.  Take a leisurely bike ride through your neighborhood or find some greenway trails close by.

2. Go to a park

Parks are home to many fun activities for your grandkids.  It may have a playground or swing set or wide open spaces to play tag.  You could even come prepared with your own outdoor activities like a frisbee, football or a picnic!

3. Start a lemonade stand

Nothing says summer like a refreshing glass of cold lemonade!  Starting up a lemonade stand will give your grandkids the opportunity to make lemonade from scratch and decorate and advertise their lemonade stand.  It also provides an easy avenue to weave in some lessons about liquid measurement or counting money to keep those math skills sharp over the summer.

4. Go to the pool

No summer is complete without a pool day.  Load up with towels, sunscreen and diving toys and have fun cooling off in the pool.

5. Make popsicles

Everyone loves a frozen treat during the summer!  On hot days, popsicles can be a great way to cool down while satisfying a sweet tooth.  They are easy to make and can be made in a variety of flavors.  If you are looking for inspiration, check out these recipes for homemade popsicles.1

6. Go to an outdoor movie

You may think outdoor movies are only a pastime from your childhood, but they are actually still thriving today!  Many museums, city parks and private companies offer outdoor movies during the summer.  It not only stirs up nostalgia, but offers family fun for people of all ages, making it a memorable outing for your grandkids.

7. Sketch chalk drawings

You don’t have to be an artist to enjoy chalk drawings.  Grab a bucket of colorful chalk and encourage your grandkids to paint your driveway, sidewalks or neighborhood streets.  You can even create hopscotch obstacle courses to complete together.  The only limit of possibilities is your imagination.
