Revatio is a medication used to treat erectile dysfunction, as well as high blood pressure in the lungs. It is available as a brand name or generic drug and comes as an oral liquid and an oral tablet.
Revatio is a medication that contains the active ingredient Sildenafil. It is used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED), and also to treat high blood pressure in the lungs.
Revatio inhibits an enzyme called PDE-5 in the smooth muscle of the lungs to relax blood vessels and decrease blood pressure within the lungs. Blocking PDE-5 also helps increase blood flow to the penis.
Revatio is typically taken 1-3 times daily when treating high blood pressure in the lungs.
Side effects of Revatio include headache, heartburn, upset stomach, stuffy or runny nose, muscle pain, back pain, diarrhea, redness, nosebleeds and insomnia.

If you take Revatio for erectile dysfunction, take your dose about 1 hour (effective range is 30 minutes – 4 hours) before sexual activity as needed. Do not take a daily dose of Revatio unless you plan on having sexual activity.
If you take Revatio for high blood pressure in the lungs, take your dose every day unless instructed otherwise by your doctor.
Call the doctor right away if you experience symptoms of a stroke (weakness, confusion, a drooping face or blurry eyesight), hearing changes, trouble breathing that is new or worse, chest pain, or if you experience a painful erection or an erection that lasts longer than 4 hours.
