Requip is a medication used to treat Parkinson’s disease symptoms and restless leg syndrome. Requip is available as a brand name or generic drug and comes as an oral tablet.

Requip is a medication that contains the active ingredient Ropinirole. It is used to treat symptoms of Parkinson’s disease and restless leg syndrome.

Requip increases the levels of dopamine in the body, along with other neurotransmitters, in order to reduce the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. It comes as an immediate-release tablet that is taken 3 times daily, or as an extended-release tablet that is taken one time daily.

Common side effects include upset stomach, dizziness, constipation, diarrhea, fatigue, headache, sweating, dry mouth, joint pain, shakiness, anxiety and back pain.

Requip can sometimes lower impulse control in people who take it. Let your doctor know if you have strong urges that are hard to control, such as overeating, gambling, spending money or other harmful habits.

Also talk to your doctor if you become confused, if your behavior changes or if you hallucinate or have mood changes.  

Watch for signs of low blood pressure such as extreme headaches, dizziness or changes in eyesight.

Urinary tract infections can also happen while taking Requip. Symptoms of a urinary tract infection include pain or burning while passing urine, passing urine more often or pelvic pain.
