Bentyl is a medication used to treat irritable bowel syndrome. Bentyl is available as a brand name drug or as a generic and comes as an oral capsule, an injection, an oral liquid and an oral tablet.

Bentyl is a medication that contains the active ingredient Dicyclomine. Bentyl is used to treat abdominal pain associated with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

Bentyl blocks a chemical called acetylcholine in the muscles to decrease IBS pain. It can be taken up to 4 times daily, and some health care providers may recommend only taking it as needed.

Common side effects include dizziness, fatigue, blurred eyesight, upset stomach, nervousness, dry mouth, increased thirst, dry skin, insomnia and constipation.
