UnitedHealthcare offers a number of Medicare Advantage (Part C) and Medicare prescription drug (Part D) plans.
According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage plan enrollment grew by more than 600,000 beneficiaries between 2017 and 2018, making up 25 percent of all Medicare Advantage enrollment in the U.S. in 2018.2 This was the largest plan enrollment for any Medicare Advantage firm in the U.S. that year.
Not all plans are available in all areas. If several UnitedHealthcare Medicare plans are offered where you live, one way you can compare plans is by using the Medicare Star Ratings for each plan.
Each year, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) release Star Ratings that measure the performance of Medicare Advantage plans and Medicare Part D prescription drug plans.3
Plans are evaluated using a five-star system, with one star being “poor” and five stars being “excellent.”

Depending on the type of coverage the plan offers, the overall Medicare Star Rating assesses the plan’s performance in categories such as the plan’s history of customer service, how members of the plan are able to manage their chronic conditions, customer complaints and several other factors.
If a plan receives fewer than three stars for three consecutive years, the CMS will flag the plan as “underperforming” and may decide to pull the plan from being offered entirely.
