WellCare Medicare Advantage plans

WellCare offers several types of Medicare Advantage plans, such as HMO and PPO Medicare plans.

Medicare HMO plans

Members of a Medicare HMO (Health Maintenance Organization) plan are often required to  designate a primary care physician (PCP) to coordinate their health care. If you require specialized care, you may be required to get a referral from your PCP.

Many Medicare HMO plans require you to seek health care services from a network of providers who contract with your plan. You might not be able to receive approved medical care outside of your plan network. If you seek health care services outside of the plan network, you may have to pay for it completely out of pocket (except in the case of emergency).

Medicare PPO plans

Beneficiaries of a Medicare PPO (Preferred Provider Organization) plan typically have more freedom in the health care providers they can visit for covered care. You may be able to visit a health care provider outside of your plan network, though you may have to pay higher out-of-pocket costs than if you stay within the plan network.

You may not be required to choose a primary care physician as a member of a Medicare PPO plan, and you might not be required to get a referral in order to see a specialist.

Plan networks and coverage will vary based on your plan provider and the type of Medicare Advantage plan you select.

WellCare Medicare Part D plans

WellCare offers Medicare Part D plans, which help provide coverage for some prescription drug costs.

Each Medicare Part D plan features its own formulary. A Medicare formulary details the drugs that are covered by the plan and how those drug costs are covered, including what types of out-of-pocket costs the beneficiary may be required to pay.

WellCare Medicare plan eligibility

In order to be eligible for a Medicare Advantage or Medicare Part D plan, you must first be enrolled in Part A and Part B of Medicare. You must also live in the service area covered by your selected plan.

Enrolling in a Medicare plan

The availability, benefits and costs of Medicare plans may vary based on location. Medicare plan providers – such as WellCare – may not offer plans where you live, so it may be helpful to speak with a licensed insurance agent to learn more about your Medicare plan options.
