FAQs

If I opt for Medicare Advantage, can I still get Medigap insurance?
No. If you have Medicare Advantage, you cannot enroll in supplemental Medicare insurance. You cannot be sold a Medigap policy plan if you are enrolled in Medicare Advantage.

Are there specific times of the year when I can join Medicare Advantage?
Yes. If you do not join during your initial Medicare enrollment period (the three months before and the three months after the month you turn 65) there are specific times of the year in which plans may be changed or established:

  • Between October 15th and December 7th: Any desired changes to your plan may be made.
  • Between January 1st and February 14th: This period is referred to as the “open enrollment period” for Medicare. Some changes may be made during this period but not all, including enrollment in Medicare Advantage.
  • All changes including establishing a plan may be made during the “Special Enrollment Period.” Not all individuals qualify for this though and we suggest visiting Medicare.gov to check if you do.
